Western societies have recently discovered something that Indigenous communities have known all along: Art and music are integral to growing and maintaining a healthy brain. The health benefits of art are not only created for the individual through the intrinsic activity of making art itself, but also more broadly through the development of social capital and social inclusion.

Leaders in cultural conservation, music psychology and art therapy including MMW Director Professor Sarah Wilson and fellow MMW members A/Prof Neil McLachlan, Dr Jeanette Tamplin and Dr Lucy O'Grady explained the many positive effects of art and music on mental health and community wellbeing through a spirited and fun interactive talk.
